Bicycle trips vs VTA trips

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s 2015 bicycle count report showed that weekday bike trips increased from 8.5 percent from 2014 to 2015, which is an increase of 200,000 more bike trips. The total number of bike trips counted by the transit agency in 2015 was 2.644 million trips. I hope that this trend will continue upward

In the same time despite a Santa Clara County population and jobs boom, ridership on buses and light-rail trains has dropped a staggering 23 percent since 2001. Given the high rents and high paying jobs, my suspicion is that those moving to Bay Area must have money. Typically you don't see people at these levels looking to public transit. Perhaps adding light rail up the length of the 85 highway median may help. If the VTA train could take the drivers from Almaden and Los Gatos to Mountain View Caltrain or future Apple office, even wedded to their cars Bay Area residents may consider the public transportation.
