5100 El Camino Los Altos

The former property of the Chef Wang's Chinese Restaurant, a small hair dressing salon and Yamane Jewelers have been replaced with 3-story 29-unit condominium at 5100 El Camino Real, Los Altos at Distel Drive priced from 859,000 to 909,000 for 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 1273 to 1410 SF unit with not tax deductible HOA (home owners association fee) from $359 to $465 per month.

The 5100 El Camino Los Altos development faced opposition from the North Los Altos Neighborhood Association that filed a lawsuit to stop the condo project because it feared traffic congestion, parking issues and sight lines from the 35 feet high three-story building. They were afraid that 5100 El Camino Los Altos condos would become an observation post violating the privacy of a large numbers of the neighborhood around it, also all parking is underground, and there is no room for guest parking except on the streets. The lawsuit was dismissed in January 2006.

The Los Altos School District recently adopted a new attendance boundaries. According to map, the kids from 5100 El Camino will attend K-6 Almond Elementary school and Egan Junior High school. For high school students the Mountain View/Los Altos Union High School District offers Los Altos High School in walking distance from 5100 El Camino Real Los Altos. As for parents, they can do shopping for natural and organic foods in the recently open Whole Food or buy the junk food in nearest Walmart, both located in walking distance from condos in San Antonio Shopping Center
